Molybdenum electrodes have good high temperature performance and current intensity, so commonly replace expensive platinum electrode used in glass fiber drawing furnace, forehreath of glass furnace, all-electric melting glass furnace.
Molybdenum Electrode Development
With the development of glass electric melting technology, molybdenum electrodes also get some improvement to some extent. For a long time, glass molybdenum electrodes are installed in electric furnace by "horizontally insert" method and "bottom insert" method. The electrodes are arranged by horizontally affected by bending stress, resulting in bent downward, therefore, the insertion depth is limited and easily broken. At the same time, horizontally installment electrode will erode furnace, affected the life of the furnace. "Bottom insert" method has high melting efficiency, but if improper operation is likely to cause corrosion of the furnace.
On this basis, the researchers improved installment method to put up a new method which is "top plug". It is possible to adjust the installation location and can also change the shape of the electrodes providing ideal furnace temperature field. But also it is conducive to the replacement and installation of electrodes, can effectively improve the life of the furnace.
Molybdenum electrodes are widely used in glass furnaces for soda-lime glass and borosilicate glass melting, and it can also be used in electric heating furnace for cast stone, cinder liquid production. Using electric heating furnace for mineral melt requires two basic conditions. One is melt containing grains for transporting charge. The other is melt and electrode has compatibility between the melt and the electrode material. Therefore the electrodes demand high property.
