molybdenum disulfide is one of important molybdenum compound which obtains by chemical processing. It is kind of black powder with a metallic sheen and has hexagonal system. Besides, it has greasy feel which is similar to graphite. It has a lot of advantages. The melting point is 1185 ℃ and Mohs hardness is between 1 to 1.5. Heated in air to 450 ℃ it will start to sublime. It also has low friction coefficient (0.05 to 0.09) and at the high temperature the friction coefficient can also remain at low level. Further, it has anti-magnetic and has good chemical stability and thermal stability. It is insoluble in water and is less eroded by acid and alkali.
molybdenum disulfide is a good non-oil solid lubricant, owing to its low friction coefficient and high temperature properties, mostly used in high-load, high vacuum, high speed, temperature jump, and chemical corrosive environment and the parts which is hard to inject into the liquid lubricant or unsuitable to use liquid lubricant, so it can provide long-lasting anti-wear and corrosion protection. The suitable temperature range is -30 ~ + 350 ℃.
